7 Sneakers that aren't Golden Goose

In the last three years, fashion sneakers have exploded onto the fashion scene, redefining how we wear shoes with laces. I can’t help but marvel at the many creative ways designers have changed the narrative around sneakers, making them a statement piece as opposed to an orthopedic aid. And to be fair, a lot of today’s trendiest sneakers aren’t meant to be comfortable so much as they are meant to draw attention.

Like most people, I have been pining after Golden Goose sneakers since I saw their signature star emblem appear around campus during my freshman year of college. However, it is hard to justify spending upwards of $600 on distressed sneakers, let alone $600 on shoes in general. Lord knows my shoes take a beating, causing me to start researching alternatives that were just as stylish while also more affordable.

Not to mention, why fit in when you can stand out in something that not everyone has? There are so many unique and innovative styles that are less popular, but equally eye-catching. I put this list together with the following criteria in mind: 1. style, 2. affordability, and 3. versatility. I love that all these sneakers can be dressed up or down and will still turn heads for their sleek shape, pop of color, or overall aesthetic.

Personally, I have owned Gola and Superga sneakers in the past and can attest to loving both how they feel and how versatile they can be. Of course, all these sneakers merit a closer look if you haven’t heard of these brands and come in a wide range of styles all at a price point under $300.
